Solution Approach
Baseline Usability Testing
I spearheaded remote usability testing efforts, designing test plans and conducting interviews with 10 participants to inform design decisions.
The application was evaluated to 1) determine if users of the application found the customization process intuitive, 2) generate insight into the users’ mental models about the application content and organization, and 3) explore the need for new features and functionality.
Existing Experience
User testing did uncover some usability issues such as room "zones" changing unexpectedly, confusion about the content in the right rail, and lack of direction at the end of the process.
Design Solution
Landing Page and Share
Leveraging insights from usability testing, I enhanced the design by improving information architecture, reducing visual clutter, and simplifying the user journey.
Multiple ways for the user to share their home design was added. The previous application’s dead-end was removed by providing a clear way for users to take the next step and contact a DWH agent.
Room Selection
Improved the visual hierarchy of the content on page. Updated fonts to add personality appropriate for the brand. Streamlined the color palette to better emphasize important information.
Impact and Results
The redesigned experience drove significant improvements, resulting in a 36% increase in application completions and a 14% boost in sales leads.
